Class of 2023 Early Admission RatesSome of the First Admission Rates for the Class of 2024

While the regular school year is finishing out virtually for many students in response to the coronavirus, it’s still business as usual when it comes to admissions decisions, with colleges releasing their admissions decisions and results through the rest of March.

Even with concerns about enrollment due to canceled admitted student weekends and uncertainty about whether international students can make it in the fall, it’s still a relatively competitive year for students applying to highly-selective colleges and universities in the US.

MIT was one of the first to release admissions data, with decisions coming on their traditional notification date of Pi Day, 3/14. It was another competitive year at MIT, with 7.2% of applicants admitted to the class of 2024, slightly higher than the 6.6% admit rate last year.

Class of 2024 Application Numbers
As far as application numbers go, it was another year of minimal applicant pool growth, as many colleges reported modest increases in applications from the year before – and even some decreases.

Harvard reported 40,246 applications for the class of 2024, a decrease of about 7% from the year before and the lowest number of applications in three years at the university.

At Princeton University, however, applications were slightly up from last year, less than 1%, with 32,838 students applying to the class of 2024. While the university only received about 30 more applications from last year, it still marked the second largest applicant pool in the school’s history.
